TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Tallahassee’s Lake Ella has long been a popular gathering spot.
Some recent social media posts said the area is not what it used to be.
People complained about trash, goose droppings and the quality of the water there.
Now, people are stepping up to help with a community cleanup scheduled for Saturday morning.
Businesses nearby are thankful for the show of support for this local gem.
“I think it’s amazing that the community is coming together to help out with that,” Heather Wade, owner of Avant Garb said. “And that’s the sort of thing, sometimes you see it, sometimes it becomes a little more littered than other times. This Saturday’s event will really help a lot.”
Lisa Folmar with Quarter Moon Imports shares the sentiment.
“It’s just so reaffirming. It’s such a great part of Tallahassee, and it’s important to everyone. And I’m just so glad that people are chipping in to help,” Folmar said.
The cleanup is set to start around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
People are asked to bring their own gloves and trash bags.
