Miami, FL – A fire at a Miami marina damaged multiple vessels and triggered a large emergency response as investigators work to determine what sparked the blaze.
Miami Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to Austral Marina during the early morning hours after reports of boats on fire along the Miami River.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy flames coming from vessels docked at the marina, with the fire threatening nearby boats and surrounding property.
Officials said two boats were heavily involved in the fire when crews reached the scene.
Additional resources were requested as firefighters worked to keep the flames from spreading through the marina.
Emergency personnel attacked the fire from both land and water, utilizing multiple hose lines and marine firefighting equipment to contain the blaze.
Authorities reported that four boats ultimately sustained damage.
Two vessels suffered extensive fire damage, while nearby boats were impacted by heat and smoke exposure.
One of the damaged vessels was reportedly a large yacht docked near the area where the fire began.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in less than an hour.
Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported and that all of the affected boats were unoccupied at the time of the incident.
Boat owners were later contacted and arrived at the marina to assess the damage.
Following the fire, investigators began examining the scene to determine the cause and point of origin.
Miami Fire Rescue’s fire investigation unit is leading the investigation.
Authorities have not announced any preliminary findings and said the cause remains under review.
Environmental agencies may also evaluate the area to determine whether fuel, oil, or other materials entered the water as a result of the fire.
