Wadeview Community Center students are reading this summer, and they’re off to a great start by winning Mayor Buddy’s Book Club Summer Reading Challenge.
The City of Orlando’s program is targeted to second through sixth grade students and “encourages leisure time reading and creative expression” according to the City website.
Wadeview students won by having the highest participation rate.
During the regular school year, 695 students participated weekly in Mayor Buddy’s Book Club meetings. Students had to read six books outside of classroom assignments, simply for the pleasure of reading.
Reading doesn’t end when the school year ends, however, so the Summer Reading Challenge helps keep momentum during summer vacation.
