The Miami Heat’s pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly gaining traction, with the Detroit Pistons potentially involved as a facilitator in a larger trade structure.

According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Heat are making “significant progress” toward completing a potential Giannis trade.

Sidery reports that Milwaukee and Miami are still discussing the inclusion of unprotected future draft picks and the Heat’s young prospects, which remain key parts of the negotiations.

The 31-year-old Antetokounmpo has been heavily linked with Miami, with ESPN previously reporting that the two-time MVP would prefer to join the Heat if he leaves Milwaukee.

Pistons could facilitate Tyler Herro move

Per Sidery, the Pistons appear to be involved as a possible facilitator for Tyler Herro.

Herro has been one of the main names linked to a possible Heat package, but Miami may need to reroute him to a third team to create a deal that better fits Milwaukee’s preferences.

Detroit’s involvement would make sense from that perspective, as the Pistons have been linked with interest in adding more perimeter scoring around Cade Cunningham.

Herro, 26, averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists for Miami this past season while shooting 48.0% from the field and 37.8% from three.

Bucks still pushing for major return

Despite the reported progress, Milwaukee’s asking price remains the major obstacle.

Jake Fischer of The Stein Line recently reported that the Bucks have been seeking what has been described as an “unrealistic” return for Antetokounmpo, asking for a package so strong that it could leave the acquiring team without enough depth to contend.

That is the challenge for Miami: landing Antetokounmpo while still keeping enough talent around him to compete for a championship.
