The Key Biscayne Community Compost Program, run by A Zero Waste Culture, was launched in 2020. Its mission is to divert food scraps and other organics from landfill, reduce methane emissions and create nutrient-rich soil.

Members collect food scraps during the week and bring them on Saturdays to the Farmers Market at Key Biscayne Community Church, 355 Glenridge Rd.
Below is the environmental impact of the Island’s composting efforts:
• 1,773 pounds of food scraps collected this past week
• 403,345 pounds collected so far, or 201.67 tons
• 131.09 metric tons of greenhouse gases prevented from entering the atmosphere
That’s like:
• 332,962 miles driven
• 10.57 million smartphone charges
• 2,185 trees helping clean the air for 10 years
