MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) — Two men are safe after being rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard Sunday morning off the coast of South Florida.

Officials say a Station Miami Beach boat crew responded to a report of people in distress about four miles east of Elliot Key, near Ceasar Creek.

The call came in around 7:30 a.m., when crew members aboard the tug vessel Allie B spotted the two men drifting in the water without life jackets and alerted Coast Guard watchstanders in Miami.

Rescue crews arrived on scene shortly after 8:10 a.m. and located both individuals in stable condition. Authorities say neither man was injured.

According to the Coast Guard, the men had drifted away from their vessel prior to being spotted offshore.

“We’re grateful we were able to bring these mariners home safely today,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Timothy Fiala, a crew member involved in the rescue. “Having a life jacket for each person on board can make all the difference in an emergency.”
