West Morton Avenue is not usually the place drivers encounter a boat, even with the amount of rain Jacksonville has seen in the past week.

That changed Saturday night, when a trailer broke loose and the pontoon boat it was carrying slid into the middle of the road, according to Jacksonville police.

An 18-year-old Winchester man told police he was driving west on West Morton Avenue about 8:11 p.m. Saturday, hauling a trailer that was carrying a pontoon boat. The trailer winch broke near South Westgate Avenue, and the boat slid off the back of the trailer and into the road.

No one was injured, but the Lowe 2016 Tritoon boat sustained damage to the tubes and the motor, according to a police report.
