ST. LUCIE COUNTY – A suspected car thief in Stuart was arrested on June 18 by St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Fort Pierce.
According to a Facebook posting by Stuart Police, officers responded on June 17 to a report of a car theft where the caller identified a possible suspect.
With the assistance of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the stolen vehicle – a black Hyundai SUV – was located June 18 in the 14800 block of Indrio Road, Fort Pierce, according to an arrest affidavit.
At the scene, deputies encountered Kyle Richard Brennan, 32, of Loxahatchee, the same individual identified as the suspect in the earlier theft investigation in Stuart, according to the Facebook posting.
When officers encountered Brennan, he appeared to be disoriented and confused, wearing only underwear and drooling on himself, according to the arrest affidavit.
Brennan told officers he was driving to Jacksonville when the GPS took him down Indrio Road into orange groves, according to the arrest affidavit.
He told officers that he did not know the car he was driving was stolen and that it was given to him on June 17 by his girlfriend in Jupiter, according to the arrest affidavit.
Brennan was booked into St. Lucie County Jail on a charge of grand theft auto. He remained in jail as of June 20 on a $5,000 bond, according to jail records.
