A Jacksonville church is inviting the community to an afternoon of food, activities and music connected to a major charitable concert being performed by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and New Life Family Worship Center have partnered to host a free community event at 300 Brynn Marr Road in Jacksonville.
The event will coincide with a special performance by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, which is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its 1926 appearance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Organizers said the Jacksonville event will begin at 2 p.m. with outdoor activities for children and adults, along with free Eastern-style barbecue and side dishes.
At 4 p.m., attendees will gather inside the church, where the New Life Praise Team is scheduled to perform at approximately 4:25 p.m.
At 5 p.m., guests will watch a broadcast of the choir’s “Songs of Hope” benefit concert, which features special guests Donny Osmond, David Foster, Katharine McPhee, Stephanie J. Block, Sebastian Arcelus and the Bonner Family. The performance is expected to conclude around 7 p.m.
According to organizers, all activities and food are free for those attending.
The Hollywood Bowl concerts are being held June 24 and 25, with ticket proceeds benefiting organizations including CARE, Helen Keller International and The Hunger Project. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has pledged to match ticket-sale revenue, doubling the charitable contributions generated by the event.
Local organizers said the Jacksonville gathering is intended to bring the community together for fellowship, music and service.
