TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – More than 80 pets were adopted from the Tallahassee Animal Service Center over the weekend as part of a statewide adoption blitz.
The shelter offered free adoptions Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
A Monday Facebook post revealed 83 pets found new homes: 49 cats, 32 dogs, 1 bunny and 1 guinea pig.

“To everyone who adopted – thank you for opening your heart and home to a shelter pet. You truly changed a life,” the shelter’s Facebook post said.
The Tallahassee Animal Service Center was one of nearly 50 across the state participating in the Petco Love Florida Mega Pet Adoption event. It set a statewide goal of 2000 adoptions in three days.
“It’s the only event like this in Florida and one of very few in the country where shelters across the state rally around a single adoption event and goal,” said Jacksonville Humane Society CEO Lawrence Nicolas.
Nicolas says the number of adoptions should be finalized later this week.
The Tallahassee Animal Service Center’s Assistant Director Grayson Walters stresses the mega adoption event comes at a critical time as shelters nationwide typically cope with increasing intakes and crowded kennels during the spring and summer.
