TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – The Florida government is taking steps to regulate a “highly addictive” drug.
Monday, Attorney General James Uthmeier announced an emergency rule enacting strict limits on the chemical 7-OH and it’s alternatives.
7-OH can be found in kratom products across the state.
This emergency rule would limit the amount of 7-OH allowed in products to no more than one milligram.
Any vendors who violate the rule could face felony charges and have their business shut down.
Uthmeier said this rule will better protect young people who are unknowingly exposed to the drug.
“A lot of the branding is that this is natural, therapeutic, they don’t realize what they are taking is so highly concentrated. And before you know it they’re either addicted or suffering.“
The emergency rule goes into effect immediately.
Penalties can carry up to 30 years in prison.
