GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Leaders with the Humane Society of North Central Florida are asking people to help foster dogs after closing kennels due to extreme heat.
Officials say the facility’s primary dog kennel area, which normally houses more than 30 dogs, has been closed.
The dogs were relocated to climate-controlled spaces within the shelter; however, the situation has reduced the human society’s capacity.

They say every dog that goes into a foster home opens up valuable kennel space.
“While all of our dogs are safe, this situation creates a serious capacity challenge,” said Franziska Raeber, Director of Development at HSNCF. “We depend on our foster families now more than ever to help us care for animals through the summer.”
