CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE: The bridge has reopened in both directions.
The Shands Bridge is currently closed for an unknown period of time in both directions after a barge struck it Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
Drivers who rely on the bridge should use the Buckman Bridge as a detour at this time.
Hampton Ray, community outreach manager for FDOT, told First Coast News the barge has been removed, and that crews are now inspecting the bridge.
Once the inspection has been complete, the bridge will reopen, FDOT said. There is currently no timeline for how long the bridge will stay closed, according to Ray.
