FORT PIERCE — Nothing says summer like fresh watermelon, so naturally such goodness deserves its own celebration. That’s exactly what Hamilton Farms in Fort Pierce has planned for the coming weekend with its inaugural Watermelon Festival.
The festival will take place on the farm Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
The idea for the event was inspired by the success of the farm’s first-ever Strawberry Festival held in March, with the goal of making both celebrations an annual tradition.
Matt Hamilton, who operates the family farm alongside his wife, Jenna, and their three children, is a fourth-generation Fort Pierce farmer. His great-grandfather began citrus farming in the area four decades ago, establishing a legacy that continues today.
Reflecting on the Strawberry Festival’s success, Hamilton said the farm welcomed approximately 350 vehicles each day. With most visitors attending as families, he estimated that around 1,000 people participated over the two-day event.
For the past two years, Hamilton Farms has operated as a u-pick destination, giving visitors the opportunity to wander the fields and groves while selecting their own fresh fruits and produce straight from the source. Seasonal offerings have included everything from oranges and berries to sunflowers and tomatoes.
According to Hamilton, the u-pick concept has proven extremely popular, providing benefits for both the farm and the families who visit to enjoy a day outdoors in an agricultural setting.
The Watermelon Festival will offer a variety of attractions for guests of all ages, including vendors, food trucks, a petting zoo, hayrides, and a play area for children. Admission is $5 per vehicle.
Hamilton Farms is located at 1500 N. Header Canal Road, off Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce.
