PORT ST. LUCIE — A 49-year-old man from Port St. Lucie, Victor Santiago, died in a crash at the intersection of Southeast Crosstown Parkway and Southeast Sandia Drive the morning of Oct. 31.

Police released the name late afternoon Nov. 3.

At about 5:45 a.m. Oct. 31, police responded to the intersection and a preliminary investigation showed that a Port St. Lucie man driving a 2021 four-door Mercedes struck Santiago, who was on an electric scooter, according to a Port St. Lucie Police Department news release.

The Mercedes was driving west on Southeast Crosstown Parkway while Santiago was going north on the scooter through the west crosswalk across Southeast Crosstown Parkway. The Mercedes struck Santiago in the outside lane and ejected him off the scooter.

Santiago sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Lucie Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to the news release. The driver of the Mercedes was uninjured and stayed on scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
