AND WHILE MOST PEOPLE TRY THEIR BEST TO STAY INSIDE DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR, MANY PEOPLE WHO WORK OUTSIDE DON’T ALWAYS HAVE THE CHOICE. IF YOU’VE BEEN OUTSIDE THIS WEEK, IT’S BEEN PRETTY OBVIOUS THAT IT’S BEEN HOT AND HUMID, AND WE’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT WHAT ARE THE JOBS THAT DEFINITELY HAVE IT THE TOUGHEST DURING THESE TIMES. ROOFERS DEFINITELY MAKE THAT LIST. TODAY WE TALKED TO THIS GROUP ABOUT HOW THEY PROTECT THEMSELVES DURING THESE HIGH TEMPERATURES. WHILE THE HEAT THIS WEEK HAS BEEN STRONG ON A ROOF HERE IN FLORIDA, IT CAN FEEL EVEN STRONGER. CREWS WITH ROOFING OUT OF JENSEN BEACH TELL ME THE SUN, HUMIDITY AND HEAT REFLECTING OFF METAL ROOFING CAN MAKE CONDITIONS TOUGH, MAKING SAFETY A TOP PRIORITY. IT IS HOT. THEY ALSO KEEP LARGE COOLERS LOADED WITH STUFF LIKE WATER, GATORADE, ICE AND ELECTROLYTE PACKETS. WITH THE HEAT YOU’VE SEEN THIS WEEK, HE TELLS ME, THEY GO THROUGH THAT VERY QUICKLY. SO WE’VE BEEN WE’VE BEEN DEFINITELY RUNNING THROUGH A WATER PACKAGE LIKE CRAZY, MAHARIS SAYS. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS, HOWEVER, IS THE CLOTHING THAT THEY WEAR. MANY OF THE ROOFERS HAVE FACE MASKS AND BREATHABLE LONG SLEEVE SHIRTS, HE SAYS. WITHOUT THEM, THE SUN WOULD OVERHEAT THE CREW VERY QUICKLY. IT COULD BE REALLY DANGEROUS. Florida roofers take precautions to stay safe in extreme heat
Crews from Fox Haven Roofing in Jensen Beach say safety is a top priority.

Roofers in Port St. Lucie are taking extra precautions to protect themselves from the intense heat and humidity while working outdoors this week. Crews from Fox Haven Roofing in Jensen Beach said the sun, humidity, and heat reflecting off metal roofing make conditions especially challenging, making safety a top priority. “It is hot. We remind the guys to stay hydrated at all times. We always remind the guys can take breaks as well when needed,” Diego Mijares, project manager at Fox Haven Roofing, said.Mijares said his crews always have shaded areas available to cool down. The team uses a large cooler stocked with water, Gatorade, ice, and electrolyte packets to stay hydrated. “So we’ve been, we’ve been definitely running through, water packets like crazy,” Mijares said. Mijares also highlighted the importance of protective clothing, noting that many roofers wear face masks, hoods, and breathable long-sleeve shirts to shield themselves from the sun.”It could be really dangerous.
