Detectives said the investigation began after an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) tip. In May, Mayes was arrested after investigators said he sent money to a teenager in exchange for nude images. Following that arrest, members of the sheriff’s office Special Victims Unit continued investigating and found multiple images of child pornography stored on Mayes’ phone, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office said the case highlights the ongoing work of investigators who focus on crimes involving the exploitation of children.
