STARKE, Fla. (WCJB) – Officials say two corrections officers were attacked by an inmate Friday at Florida State Prison in Raiford.
According to the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC), the inmate attacked the officers with an “improvised contraband weapon.” The officers’ injuries were non-life-threatening.
Officials with the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office confirm deputies responded to the prison to aid state corrections officers.
“The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) prioritizes the safe and secure operation of correctional institutions. Inmates who cause harm to others are held accountable for their actions. This includes administrative sanctions, placement in restrictive housing, and, if applicable, criminal charges to ensure the safety of staff and other inmates.
On June 26, 2026, two officers were attacked by an inmate using an improvised contraband weapon at Florida State Prison; due to an open and active investigation by the Office of the Inspector General, FDC is unable to provide any additional information at this time.”
