The Rays opened the series on Friday night with a 6-1 win and played to a 4-2 win on Saturday afternoon to earn a series victory at home. Saturday’s win was credited to Michael Grove on the mound after he threw for three innings and struck out four batters, only giving up one hit. Junior Caminero opened the scoring for Tampa Bay with his 21st home run of the season, a fly ball over the left field wall. Jonathan Aranda gave the Rays the lead with a two-run shot to right center field, bringing home Yandy Díaz with his 13th homer of the year. Cedric Mullins closed things out on the offensive end with sac fly in the bottom of the sixth.

Jose Cabrera dropped to 0-1 on the season with the loss on Saturday, giving up all four runs, each of them earned, and striking out four batters in five innings. Corbin Carroll gave the Diamondbacks the lead in the top of the first with an RBI single to right field, but it was short lived. The team’s only other run came home by means of Ketel Marte with his 14th home run of the year, a solo shot to center field.

The Diamondbacks will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday by giving the ball to Merrill Kelly while the Rays counter with Drew Rasmussen. Kelly comes into the game with a record of 5-7 so far and an ERA of 5.71. Rasmussen is currently sitting at 6-4 on the season with an ERA of 2.62.
