MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Fish and Wildlife officials shared news Sunday of a second alligator bite in Central Florida in the past week.
Officials say a juvenile was bitten Saturday at Nelson’s Fish Camp in Umatilla.
FWC said an 8’7″ alligator bit the victim on the hand while they were fishing.
FWC says The alligator was later killed by an officer.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, though the extent of their injuries was not shared.
The extent of that injury was not shared, but the 8-foot alligator was removed and the park was later reopened to swimmers, according to FWC.
The man has since been released from the hospital.
After Saturday’s bite, officials reminded the public that while serious alligator injuries are rare, FWC’s Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program removes alligators that pose a danger to people, pets or property.
