TONIGHT. I’M LEARNING SHE IS STILL RECOVERING, BUT IT’S BEEN AN EMOTIONAL COUPLE OF DAYS FOR THIS WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD. >> BUT WE COULDN’T SEE HER AND COULDN’T GET VERY SHORTLY THEREAFTER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IS HERE AND AND THEY THEY WERE ABLE TO GET IN. YOU KNOW, ROLAND IS THE MOTHER OF THE 23 YEAR-OLD WOMAN WHO WAS TRAPPED INSIDE THIS HOME SATURDAY. ROWLAND TELLS US HER DAUGHTER IS HANGING IN THERE. SHE HAD TO BE FLOWN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER FIREFIGHTERS SAVED HER LIFE WAS VERY DEVASTATING. NEIGHBORS JUMPED INTO ACTION SATURDAY TO HELP. THEY TELL ME THEY COULD NOT SLEEP AND WERE IN TEARS ALL NIGHT WATCHING THE SCARY SITUATION ON THEIR STREET, INCLUDING CHRISTINA CORWIN. THE FLAMES WERE ABSOLUTELY >> ENORMOUS IN THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE NOT BEING ABLE TO DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT HERE. JUST FELT HORRIBLE. I WAS PRAYING THEY WOULD COME FAST ENOUGH TO HELP AND SAVE HER. A VISITOR TO THE AREA TRIED TO JUMP IN AND HELP SAVE THE WOMAN BEFORE FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED TO. SHE JUST KEPT YELLING. >> AT THAT POINT, I TRIED THE DOORS THAT EVERYTHING WAS LOCKED AND WENT TO THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE. THE GATE WAS LOCKED OR TRY TO BREAK APART THE FENCE, BUT IT WAS PRETTY SOLID. I COULDN’T I COULDN’T GET IN THAT POINT. I HEARD EVERYBODY ELSE STARTING TO RUN TOWARDS THE HOME. ONE OF THE GUY CAME AND HE WAS HELPING BREAK SOME OF THE GLASS IN THE FRONT OF THE WINDOW. BUT WE COULDN’T GET IN. >> ON TIME ON TOP, EXCUSE SAVING THE WOMAN FIREFIGHTERS RESCUED THE FAMILY’S PETS. KITTENS WERE SAVED AND LEE COUNTY DOMESTIC ANIMAL SERVICES TELLS US THEY ARE DOING OKAY. Firefighters rescued a 21-year-old woman from a burning house in Cape Coral on Saturday night.She is now recovering after being flown to the hospital, leaving the neighborhood emotionally shaken.”We couldn’t see her and couldn’t get in. And, very shortly thereafter, the fire department was here and they were able to get in,” said Christina Corwin, one of the neighbors who helped call 911. Neighbors, including Christina Corwin, were deeply affected by the event and tried to help before the firefighters arrived.”The flames were absolutely enormous in the front of the house, and not being able to do anything until the fire department got here, just felt horrible. I was praying they would come fast enough to help and save her,” Corwin said.A visitor to the area also attempted to rescue the young woman before the firefighters arrived.”She just kept yelling. At that point, I tried the doors. Everything was locked. I went to the side of the house. The gate was locked. They try to break apart the fence, but it was pretty solid. I couldn’t get in, and at that point, I heard, you know, everybody else starting to run towards the home and one other guy came and he was helping break some of the glass in the front of the window, but we couldn’t get in,” said Steve Straussner, a visitor to Cape Coral. In addition to saving the woman, firefighters rescued the family’s pets, including kittens, which are reported to be doing well, according to Lee County Domestic Animal Services. She is now recovering after being flown to the hospital, leaving the neighborhood emotionally shaken.
“We couldn’t see her and couldn’t get in. And, very shortly thereafter, the fire department was here and they were able to get in,” said Christina Corwin, one of the neighbors who helped call 911.
