Yung Miami says she knew “Spend Dat” would be a hit when she worked on it

The rapper presented the BET HER Award at the 2026 BET Awards, where the audience sang along to her song
Yung Miami knew “Spend Dat” was something special.
Speaking with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the 2026 BET Awards on Sunday, June 28, the former City Girls rapper opened up about the making of her latest release “Spend Dat.”
“I just loved the energy, the beat, the feeling it gave me,” the 32-year-old rapper, born Caresha Brownlee, said.
“The beat just got me moving. When I recorded that song, I said that this song is going to be a song that resonates with the people and I was right,” she continued. “I feel just so happy seeing everybody love the song.”
When asked if she knew the song would turn into a summer anthem, Yung Miami said, “Of course.”
At the annual awards show, Yung Miami presented the BET HER Award, which went to Doechii and SZA.
According to a video posted by BET, as she walked onstage, the audience began singing the lyrics to “Spend Dat.”
BET captioned the post, “Spend dat is the summer anthem #BETAwards.”
The rapper released the song in April and it became her highest-charting solo Hot 100 hit, according to Billboard.
“I am overwhelmed with joy. I am speechless, I’m happy. I am No. 66 on Billboard. The highest I have ever charted as a solo artist,” she said in an Instagram video in June.
Days after the song’s release, Yung Miami said making “Spend Dat” was one of her “favorite studio sessions” in an Instagram video.

Yung Miami rose to fame as a member of City Girls with JT. The pair went their separate ways after the release of their 2023 album RAW and Yung Miami has since been teasing her forthcoming debut solo album.
Earlier this year, Yung Miami opened up about how her loyalty to ex Sean “Diddy” Combs amid his sexual assault allegations impacted her work and relationships.
Yung Miami and Diddy were romantically linked from 2021 to 2023 and she said that the person she dated was “a changed man.”
“And if I met this person that changed my life, that helped me grow, that treated me like a queen, that made me believe [in] myself… That’s what I know. I feel like people can have opinions, but I can only judge a person off of what I know and what I experience. Like, I can’t speak on nothing that I never was a part of, that I never knew. I can only judge who I met. I can only judge who I was in a relationship with,” she said in March on The Breakfast Club.
“I lost deals,” she continued. “I lost money. I lost relationships. I lost a lot.”
