PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A school in St. Lucie County is getting a new name.

On October 28, the School Board of St. Lucie County unanimously selected the name Tradition Lakes K-8 school for the education building formerly known as Western Grove K-8. The school board says the new name reflects both the school’s geographic location and the spirit of the surrounding community.

The school board says the name was one of the top three recommendations from a naming committee composed of community members, district employees, and students.

“Tradition Lakes K-8 represents more than a location—it symbolizes the vibrant, growing community we serve and the promise of a school where every child can thrive. I’m honored to help shape its future,” Principal LaTanya Greene

Tradition Lakes K-8 school is scheduled to open in August 2026.
