Since 2003, a select number of graduates of Miami Dade College have been inducted each year into the college’s Alumni Hall of Fame in recognition of their professional achievements, leadership and service. On June 5, the 12 inductees from the 2026 class were celebrated at the annual ceremony.
“Our inductees’ accomplishments demonstrate the power of education to create opportunity and drive positive change,” said Miami Dade College President Madeline Pumariega. “We’re proud to recognize this remarkable group of alumni whose leadership and service continue to inspire our students and strengthen the communities they serve.”
The 2026 inductees include U.S. Ambassador Bernie Navarro, Dr. Paul S. George, Kamila E. Pritchett, Joshua Pascual, Emilio Cabrera, Beatriz Azcuy, Silvia Rios Fortun, Chief Fernando Gomez, Senator Rene García, Nestor Machado, Coach Francisco J. Martin and Ernesto Arguello.
One inductee, resident Historian at Museum of Miami Dr. Paul S. George, is a widely respected historian, educator and storyteller whose dedication to preserving and illuminating the rich history of Miami spans more than four decades. He taught history at Miami Dade College and the University of Miami and is the author and co-author of numerous books and scholarly works focused on South Florida’s past.
“I wasn’t sure where I was going when I graduated from high school, but I knew I did well in history and that I was staying in Miami for college,” said George. “Miami Dade was the perfect place for me. The classes were small and I received lots of encouragement from the faculty. The college provided the environment for me to build confidence, develop good study habits and learn to think. It was a very positive experience for me.”
Another inductee, Kamila E. Pritchett, president and CEO of The Black Archives History and Research Foundation of South Florida, had this to say: “My time at Miami Dade College was a formative time of my life. I became engaged with writing and was encouraged to write for the school newspaper. I ended up becoming the editor in chief. I graduated with a whole new purpose and excitement for a career as a journalist.”
The annual ceremony on June 5 brought together alumni, community leaders, donors and supporters to celebrate the college. It was made possible by the foundation’s premier sponsors: Supreme Twins Foundation, Lennar Foundation and City National Bank.
Past inductees to the Alumni Hall of Fame include actor Andy Garcia, Univision Host Lili Estefan, music industry legend Emilio Estefan, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, journalists Belkys Nerey and Eliott Rodriguez, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Panama Kevin Marino Cabrera, Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Jose Dotres, former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Nat Moore and many others.
