A 25-year-old North Lauderdale man is facing multiple felony charges after Boca Raton police say he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl at a Boca Raton hotel and used text messages and social media to communicate with her before the encounter.Malik Juante Mackey was charged with sexual battery on a victim between the ages of 12 and 17, unlawful sexual activity with a minor, soliciting or luring a child to commit an illegal act, harmful communication to a minor and unlawful use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.According to an arrest affidavit, officers were called to a Holiday Inn in Boca Raton on July 7 after a disturbance involving a teenage girl. Police learned the girl had been reported missing from Davie. Before she was returned to her group home, she told officers that one of the men she had been staying with at the hotel sexually battered her and that she wanted to report the incident.Detectives said the teen identified Mackey as the man she had been communicating with through text messages and Instagram. Investigators allege Mackey arranged transportation for her to travel to hotels where he was staying on multiple occasions.During an interview with detectives, the teen said she arrived at the Boca Raton hotel on July 6 and met Mackey and another man in a hotel room. She told investigators that Mackey repeatedly asked her to have sex and became upset when she refused.According to the affidavit, the teen said Mackey later forced her pants off despite her objections and had sex with her without her consent.The girl also told investigators that she performed oral sex on Mackey after he continued pressuring her for sexual activity. Detectives said she did not immediately report the allegations because she was afraid of what Mackey and the other man might do to her.Police said a review of text messages and Instagram conversations between Mackey and the teen showed discussions about meeting at hotels and contained sexually explicit communications. Detectives wrote that the communications were consistent with the victim’s account of events.Investigators also said GPS monitoring records connected to Mackey’s pretrial release conditions placed him at the Holiday Inn during the time period in question. Mackey’s sister reportedly told detectives he had been staying in hotels because he was prohibited from being around minors as a condition of his release.On July 11, authorities said Mackey was arrested by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on a violation of a pretrial release warrant. Detectives later attempted to interview him, but he invoked his right to an attorney and declined to answer questions. Court records show the case remains pending.
