PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A Dave & Buster’s employee is being credited with quick action after police said she found a man asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle early Monday morning.
According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, officers responded just after 12:40 a.m. to the Dave & Buster’s parking lot after an employee noticed a driver who appeared to be unconscious inside a running vehicle.
Police said the employee checked on the man because she was concerned for his well-being. The driver then suddenly woke up, became belligerent and began acting erratically, prompting the employee to call 911.
When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old Anthony Rosales asleep in the driver’s seat with the vehicle still running, police said. Officers reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and seeing an open bottle of alcohol inside.
According to police, Rosales was too impaired to safely perform standard field sobriety exercises. He was taken to the Port St. Lucie Police Department for a breath test, where police said his breath sample registered 0.124. Florida’s legal limit is 0.08.

During the investigation, police said Rosales resisted officers, attempted to batter an officer and repeatedly threatened to kill the arresting officer and the officer’s family.
Investigators also determined Rosales had a previous DUI conviction earlier this year.
Rosales was arrested and charged with DUI, second offense; resisting an officer with violence; battery on a law enforcement officer; threats against a law enforcement officer; and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
Port St. Lucie police thanked the Dave & Buster’s employee for calling 911, saying her actions may have prevented an impaired driver from getting onto the road.
Police urged anyone who sees a person who appears impaired or unconscious behind the wheel to call 911.
