PORT CHARLOTTE — Ahead of July 4, Charlotte County commissioners are meeting to discuss whether or not to end a months-long burn ban.
Fireworks and sparklers are not allowed when there’s a burn ban in place.
Charlotte County’s burn ban was last reinstated April 28.
Since then, there have been a number of wildfires in the area including in Port Charlotte off Oil Well Road last week.
But there have been several rainstorms that have soaked large parts of the county.
Commissioners are scheduled for a special meeting at 8 a.m., Thursday, July 2 in Room 119 of the Charlotte County Administration Center, 18500 Murdock Circle.
Discussions are limited to approval of a proposed resolution declaring an end to the burn ban, and commissioner, administrator, and county attorney comment.
The public is invited to attend and provide input, according to the press release.
Charlotte County’s actions will not change burn bans in other counties, like Sarasota and DeSoto, which still have burn bans in effect as of Tuesday.
