JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A construction project on Court Street in downtown Jacksonville remains on track to finish later this summer.

Court Street has been closed since April 20 while crews removed brick from part of the roadway and converted another section to two-way traffic by removing the median.

City Manager Joshua Ray says the project has gone as planned.

The project drew criticism from some downtown business owners, including Clove Hitch Beer Company, who said removing the brick would take away some of the area’s character.

The city later reached a compromise, agreeing to replace the brick with stamped, dyed concrete designed to give a similar look.

Ray says construction remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by mid-September.
