Greater Bond neighborhood in Tallahassee set to receive nearly $1 million for improvements

  • June 30, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee neighborhood is set to get nearly $1 million in improvements to help increase the quality of life, according to city leaders.

As part of the Neighborhood First initiative, the Greater Bond neighborhood will soon see upgrades to Floral Street, with sidewalks, street lighting, landscaping, and connectivity to the St. Marks Trail.

“I think it’s amazing,” Tony Watts, Jr. said. He’s lived in the Bond neighborhood for three years. “Whenever a community can go outside and be proud of what they see, they will treat that community better.”

He said Greater Bond has a good number of people who want to make the community better, so the monetary investment is critical.

“Having a walkable community not only just adds to the safety of everything, but it just makes you want to take your kids outside and, kind of, really embrace the community and see what it has to offer,” he said.

Leaders broke ground on the Floral Street project Monday, and Leann Watts-Williams with the city’s Neighborhood Affairs division said construction will start soon.

“It’s very important to have a safe walking place,” Watts-Williams said. “Greater Bond is a high-pedestrian-activity neighborhood, and the Floral Street streetscaping project supports that.”

Watts-Williams said this project is about investing in people.

“It’s not just an investment monetarily, but it’s an investment in the quality of life in Greater Bond, which has a rich history.”

The project is expected to be finished by the end of this year or the beginning of 2027, according to Watts-Williams.
