(NewsNation) — Voters in Miami will cast their ballots Tuesday to choose, from a crowded field of candidates, who will become their next mayor.

Thirteen candidates are vying for the seat, replacing Miami’s term-limited Mayor Francis Suarez.

The top six candidates include Suarez’s father, former Miami Mayor Xavier Suarez; Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo; former City Manager Emilio González; Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins; and former Miami Commissioners Ken Russell and Alex Díaz de la Portilla. Russell and Higgins are both Democrats; the remaining candidates are Republicans.

President Donald Trump has made an endorsement in the race, which is nonpartisan, but his influence in the area is strong. Miami is set to become the site of his future presidential library.

The mayoral race will prove to be a test for Democrats in the state, as Florida, a historically swing state, has become a Republican stronghold in recent years.

“If Florida can show in the city of Miami race that Democrats can still perform and still win in these elections, it should send shock waves across the country to continue to pay attention to Florida, continue to invest here,” Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried told Politico.

If no candidate secures a majority Tuesday, the race will head to a runoff election Dec. 9.

Polls in Miami close at 7 p.m. EST on Tuesday. See the results of the mayoral election as they come in below:
