Powell joins Chicago after a strong season with the Miami Heat, where he became one of the team’s main scoring options and earned his first NBA All-Star selection.
The 33-year-old arrives in Chicago as a veteran wing who can immediately give the Bulls another reliable offensive option, especially next to rising star Matas Buzelis.
During the 2025-26 regular season, Powell averaged 21.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for Miami while shooting 47.0% from the field.
According to Charania, Powell has averaged nearly 22 points per game over the last two seasons, making him one of the more proven scorers available on the free-agent market.
Powell’s NBA path
Powell entered the NBA in 2015 after four seasons at UCLA. He was selected with the No. 46 pick in the second round by the Milwaukee Bucks before immediately starting his NBA career with the Toronto Raptors.
The veteran guard spent the first five-plus years of his NBA career in Toronto, where he was part of the Raptors’ 2019 championship team.
He later played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat before reaching this deal with Chicago.
Powell’s career has been built around efficient scoring, three-point shooting, and the ability to play both as a starter and a high-usage secondary option.
