(NewsNation) — A Florida woman’s life was cut short after an alligator fatally mauled her on a hike with her boyfriend.
Brittany Clark, 31, was on a weekend hike last weekend with her boyfriend and a friend when they decided to cool down by taking a dip in the Econlockhatchee River in Florida’s Little Big Econ State Forest.
The group was only in three feet of water when a 12-foot alligator pounced on Clark and started doing the “death roll,” according to the medical examiner’s report. Officials said she lost both of her arms in the attack before she died.

Her boyfriend tried to pull the alligator away from her, but he, too, was pulled into the water and was unable to save her.
Clark later died at the hospital from her injuries.
“She was an amazing person; she was nice and helpful with anyone that needed any kind of help,” Clark’s brother, Nick, told local news outlet FOX 35.
Wildlife officials have since euthanized and decapitated the alligator, keeping its head as evidence.
