The crash at the onramp from Merrill Road was reported just before 9:15 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is dead after being hit by two separate vehicles on I-295 E South at Merrill Road Tuesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened on the highway on-ramp from Merrill Road, just before 9:15 p.m.
The 70-year-old pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a southbound sedan driven by a 62-year-old man and thrown into the grassy shoulder of the road, according to the FHP crash report.
After the initial collision, a 47-year-old driver in a pickup truck attempted to assist the driver of the sedan, pulling into the shoulder and hitting the pedestrian. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
