Mark Sievers returned to court for an evidentiary hearing as he seeks to appeal his death sentence. The courtroom in Lee County saw dramatic testimony as Jimmy Rodgers, one of the men convicted of being hired by Sievers to murder his wife, Dr. Teresa Sievers, took the stand.
Rodgers, Sievers’ co-conspirator, maintained his innocence, claiming he was never informed of the murder plans and had no involvement in the crime.
“I was never told by Curtis Wayne Wright that our trip to Florida was to kill Dr. Teresa Sievers,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers further alleged that Sievers and Curtis Wayne Wright were in a homosexual relationship and that the trips to Florida were a cover for that relationship.
“I was not involved in the murder of Dr. Teresa Sievers and had no involvement when Curtis Wayne Wright beat her to death with a hammer,” said Rodgers.
The hearing also included testimony from Mark Sievers’ stepmother, Jennie Weckleman, and his biological mother, Bonnie Rita Sievers. They spoke about their prior testimony during his trial, highlighting his positive demeanor as a child and adult.
Rodgers remained on the stand as the hearing continued.
