Florida city buries time capsule July 3, 2026 to be opened in 50 years

As part of America’s 250th anniversary, Vero Beach and Indian River County are creating a community time capsule.

The capsule is scheduled to be opened in 50 years as part of the nation’s tricentennial celebration, according to a news release from the city of Vero Beach.

An interment ceremony is scheduled at 10 a.m. July 3 at the Heritage Center patio area, 2140 14th Ave., with opening remarks by Vero Beach Councilman Aaron Vos. Interment of the capsule will be around 10:50 a.m. near the flag pole.

The local project consists of individual canisters placed within a single vault at the Heritage Center.

Canisters were allocated to Indian River County, its municipalities and towns, school board, and majorevent sponsors, including Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Mulligan’s, Piper Aircraft, Dyer Auto Group and Rotary Clubs, according to the news release.
