Wymore Road reopens in Maitland after county completes sinkhole repairs

Wymore Road reopened Thursday in Maitland after what Orange County lauded as tireless work from its Roads and Drainage crew to stabilize and pave over a 40-foot sinkhole that opened about seven weeks earlier. About 1,100 feet of roadway was repaved ahead of Thursday’s reopening, which the county said came one week ahead of schedule via close coordination with the city of Maitland and the Florida Department of Transportation. “Behind every successful project is a dedicated team committed to serving our community. Today, we’re proud to recognize the Roads and Drainage crew whose skill, teamwork and determination made this reopening possible,” the county said on social media, sharing before-and-after photos of the sinkhole. The sinkhole first opened early Friday, May 15, on N. Wymore Road south of Bridgewater Circle, damaging a woman’s car as she accidentally drove into it during dark morning conditions. Stability tests were completed in mid-June to finish repairs on the sinkhole after work by the county to pump more than 20,000 gallons of water into it, testing the site to see if it would hold water or continue to drain underground.
