TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Breeze Airways is now offering flights to South Florida and North Carolina after Silver Airways abruptly discontinued flights into Tallahassee last year.
The move left many travelers disappointed, but now city leaders are eager to expand access.
There were a lot of smiling faces inside Tallahassee Thursday morning as some travelers were leaving to visit loved ones up north and others were coming in to visit from South Florida. Overall, it was a positive welcome for Breeze Airways into the capital city.
One passenger, Paula Tamaddoni-Jahromi, was headed to see family in South Carolina. “We were very excited that Breeze has brought their service to Tallahassee,” Tamaddoni-Jahromi said.
Tamaddoni-Jahromi arrived at the airport with just her bookbag, a smile and a ticket in hand for a flight to Raleigh to meet her daughter.
“Usually we drive all the way up there, so now we can just take a quick flight and we’re really excited about it. It is so important and, in fact breeze is also going to be flying from Tallahassee down to Fort Lauderdale and I’m from Hollywood, so it’s a double-double surprise for me,” Tamaddoni-Jahromi said.
Two nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale and Raleigh offer more choices and potentially cheaper fares. Travelers said it meant more than extra destinations; it’s about connectivity and convenience.

Another passenger, Masekela Mandela, said the airline was a great addition to the capital city. “It’s economies of scale; a lot of the legacy carriers tend to be quite expensive to try to get into Tallahassee. Now that Breeze is here, the more options, the better, because a lot of times people want to come here for a short stay, FSU FAMU football games [or] see family of course,” Mandela said.
City leaders believe it could attract more visitors to the capital city, support local businesses and strengthen the economy. City of Tallahassee Aviation Director David Pollard said the arrival of the new airline not only restores service after losing Silver Airways last year, but it also signals a boost for competition and a growing market.
“To create that competition, expand our economic impact to the community and the region and continue to do great things. Anytime that we can deliver more air service to what the passengers demand, we’re always keeping our ear to the ground. We hear you,” Pollard said.
Tallahassee officially carries 3 airline options for residents and passengers like Cheryl Johnson coming into the capital city on the Fort Lauderdale flight. Johnson, along with many others, is feeling eager to have this option once again.
“Option to fly to Tallahassee is one of the best things since Silver left, but yes, it was a very good flight was great. Usually I have to go through Atlanta or Jacksonville, so being able to fly straight from Fort Lauderdale to Tallahassee is very good for the people, the locals in South Florida,” Johnson said.
Breeze Airways will now offer flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with starting prices at $49.
