Body-worn camera video released Thursday by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office shows three deputies fatally shooting a woman in the Dr. Phillips area on June 3. Deputies responded around 1 p.m. that day to the 8200 block of Tivoli Drive, where a neighbor had called 911 to report that a woman was in the street screaming incoherently. During a news conference the day of the shooting, Orange County Sheriff John Mina said that the woman was in her house when deputies arrived, then she came out holding a large knife. “As our deputies retreated towards the street, they gave several commands to drop the knife. The woman refused to drop the knife and shouted, ‘I’ll kill you,’ towards the deputies,” Mina said. The woman — identified as Rosalia Hodges, 59 — continued to advance toward the deputies and three deputies then fired their service weapons, striking her, the sheriff said. The bodycam video shows Hodges exiting her house with the knife raised and walking toward the deputies while repeatedly saying, “Get out.” After refusing to drop the knife and at one point saying, “I kill you,” Hodges can be seen stepping forward once more before the deputies begin shooting her.
