Man accused of shooting senior at Orange County bus stop pleads not guilty

The man accused of shooting a woman in her 70s at a bus stop in Orange County last month has been extradited to Central Florida following his arrest in New York and has pleaded not guilty, records show. Kevin Millares, 27, was booked at the Orange County jail on Tuesday and entered a written plea of not guilty on Thursday to a charge of attempted first-degree murder.Deputies responded June 8 to Egan Drive and located the woman suffering from gunshot wounds at a bus stop. Investigators said the woman was out on her daily walk when it happened, adding she was shot three times in the back. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office soon identified Millares as the suspect and said he had fled to New York, where he was arrested June 23 and held at Rikers Island. Deputies, including SWAT, were at Millares’ home on Faber Drive — just one street over from Egan Drive — telling Millares to come out for hours following the shooting, but he wasn’t there. Neighbors welcomed news of Millares’ arrest, with one telling WESH 2 News the 27-year-old had been in the house for about eight months and was acting strangely. “I’m ecstatic and I thank everybody who was involved in getting this man caught because, you know, we have been in fear these last few months,” she said. >> This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is released
