A Florida father was charged after his 8-year-old son was found riding a personal watercraft alone, authorities said.

The incident happened earlier this month near Lido Key, Sarasota Police said.

Body camera footage showed the moment Marine Patrol found the boy out on the water on his own.

“Where’s your parents?” an officer says in the video. “Can you take me to them?”

The officer met with the father, who’s seen trying to explain the situation.

“I’m sorry, I know that, I really don’t think that he’s legal to drive it, right?” he says. “We have been using Jet Skis on the lake for the last few years, he’s very proficient.”

But the father was charged with a misdemeanor because in Florida, a person must be at least 14 to operate a personal watercraft.
