The Florida Aquarium in Tampa is marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a series of events that bring a maritime perspective to the national celebration.
The Aquarium will host a three-day event, ‘Sea to Shining Sea,’ from Friday through Sunday, offering a range of family-friendly activities and patriotic displays throughout the Fourth of July weekend.
“As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, we’re proud to provide a patriotic experience that unites us around animals, nature, and fun,” said Roger Germann, President and CEO of The Florida Aquarium.
“While our Sea to Shining Sea celebration runs throughout the Summer, guests visiting over the holiday weekend will enjoy additional animal encounters, family-friendly entertainment, and never-before-offered opportunities that bring our community together to celebrate our nation’s historic birthday.”
Guests can expect themed exhibits, interactive performances, and patriotic decorations throughout the Aquarium. Scheduled ‘Dive into Adventure’ shows are set for 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., alongside appearances by animal ambassadors.
Admission discounts are available for visitors arriving after 2:50 p.m., with tickets reduced by 25 percent at the window.
Inside the exhibits, divers will appear in costume as Lady Liberty, Uncle Sam, and Captain America, while stilt walkers in patriotic attire will circulate throughout the grounds. Even the Aquarium’s bald eagle will make an appearance underwater.
Food options will include classic American Summer fare, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon, potato salad, and themed desserts and drinks.
The Aquarium’s gift shop will offer merchandise commemorating the nation’s 250th birthday, with items designed specifically for the anniversary.
While the main events and performances are scheduled for the holiday weekend, many of the special exhibits will remain on display through August 9.
