A Lauderhill man died on Tuesday after a woman shot him in what she said was self-defense during an argument about a parking space at a Walmart in Broward County.
Deputies found Bart Diguglielmo, 62, shot just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 7900 block of West McNab Road in North Lauderdale, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday.
He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale and was later pronounced dead there.
The woman who shot him stayed in the parking lot and told detectives she acted in self-defense, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office did not provide further details about the altercation before the shooting or identify the woman.
Two separate video clips recorded on a cellphone and a dashcam shared on social media showed part of the confrontation before the shooting.
The dashcam video showed the woman getting out of the driver’s seat of her parked car, holding a cellphone in one hand and a gun in the other. She briefly talked with people inside of a white car parked in the spot next to her before Diguglielmo entered the camera’s view.
Diguglielmo could be seen approaching the woman while she stood next to her car. The woman pointed the gun at Diguglielmo, who at one point raised his arms in the air. At some point in the confrontation, the woman walked around another car in the lot, away from Diguglielmo, who then walked after her to follow her around the car. There was no audio in the dashcam video shared on social media.
Diguglielmo walked away from the woman briefly while she was still pointing the gun, the dashcam video shared on social media showed.
In the separate cellphone video, the woman could be heard telling Diguglielmo to “walk away” as he walked toward her. One gunshot could be heard as the woman stood facing Diguglielmo and pointing the gun at him.
Homicide detectives are investigating and will present their findings to the State Attorney’s Office to decide whether to file charges.
