Police say the man was trying to turn into a dealership while going southbound along Florida Avenue. At the same time, another driver was speeding northbound.
TAMPA, Fla — The Tampa Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that closed the northbound lanes of Florida Avenue on Thursday morning in Tampa.
Police responded to the collision at around 7:15 a.m. Preliminary information revealed that a man in his mid-20s was speeding northbound in a blue 2022 Tesla. At the same time, a man in his mid-30s was going southbound in a 2024 Volkswagen and reportedly tried to turn left into a local dealership.
Police say the crash caused the Volkswagen to overturn, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
The man who was driving the Tesla was taken to a nearby hospital, where he’s listed as “stable,” officials say.
Investigators are still working to confirm what led up to the crash, as well as what charges, if any, may be applicable.
