Crash involving downed power lines closes part of Florida Street in Greensboro, police say
You’re gonna want to be careful. Yeah, you have to be careful in the heat, Kelly. It’s gonna be very, very hot today, especially in the sunshine. Uh, the heat wave continues and it’s really peaking yesterday and today. Those are our two hottest days, and that’s why they are first warning weather alert days. Uh, heat advisories and extreme heat warnings in effect all the way from the plains over here to the East Coast and, uh, the mid-Atlantic, including here in the Carolinas. The Foothills have another heat advisory today and an extreme heat warning still in effect for much of the Piedmont Triad. Uh, until 8 o’clock this evening, so heat index values once again later today could climb up to 105, maybe even 110 degrees, and so that puts us in the extreme risk category for heat related illnesses if you’re not being proactive, you know, uh, staying hydrated, uh, limiting time outside during that hottest part of the afternoon. Uh, taking breaks inside, uh, drinking plenty of water, things like that, uh, then, then the heat can kind of get you in trouble *** little bit, and we wouldn’t want that on the holidays. So we want you to have fun but be safe as well, and the heat is something you need to be mindful of. Beautiful sunrise with *** few high clouds over High Point University, uh, very warm, very muggy outside. It’s 79 right now, but with the humidity it feels like 82. Even here at 5:45 in the morning, there is the potential today for us to set another record high. We did it on Thursday. We did it again yesterday. We could do it again today, and that would mean that it’s potentially our hottest Fourth of July on record ever here in the triad. The record high is 98, set back in 1970. I’m forecasting 100 here in the triad later this afternoon, so. Needless to say, gonna be *** hot 4th, hot as *** firecracker, some may say, uh, feeling like 105 to maybe up to 110 with those highs near 100 later on this afternoon. We’re gonna watch for an isolated shower, maybe downpour to pop up. I think they’d be small, they’d be spotty, so likely not gonna impact your plans all that much, but there could be *** couple, uh, *** couple of cells that pop up on the radar this afternoon. Impact icons up for the heat advisory in the foothills near 100 this afternoon, feeling like 100 to 105. Isolated shower storm possible up in the mountains. Even those folks in the high country will get into the upper 80s, near 90, feeling like 90s for *** couple hours this afternoon. If you do want to go find some fireworks, maybe in Kernersville, Winston-Salem. If you got them, you know, hey, 6:30 this evening, uh, it’s gonna be hot out there at the Dash Trust Stadium. Upper 90s at first pitch, feeling like 100, uh, as well, even at 6:30 in the evening and later innings we’re still in the 80s, very warm, very muggy. Take it easy out there. And speaking of fireworks, fire danger is high, it’s hot, we’re in *** drought. This is your friendly reminder. Just be smart, be extra safe with them this time of year, of course, the drought and the heat things, and you wouldn’t wanna, uh, you know. Start *** wildfire or lose *** limb on the holiday, right? So everybody just be careful, be safe out there. These are things I have to say as your friendly neighborhood meteorologist. Near 100 today and then tomorrow I’ve got us upper 90s, so we’re gonna take the heat down *** couple degrees. We’ll also bring back *** better chance for some afternoon showers and storms, as I mentioned, I think today is mainly dry. You can see there are *** couple of blips on the radar this afternoon. Isolated shower storm possible, but most are likely still going to be dry. Slightly better chance. Tomorrow afternoon, isolated showers, storms firing up later in the day across the area that could bring some afternoon heat relief, maybe *** little bit of localized rain to help with the drought, and then into Monday early next week as we head back to work, potentially even *** better chance for some scattered afternoon storms. So we’re going to gradually start to back this heat off *** little bit with highs back down into the low and mid 90s next week and some better chances for afternoon showers and storms, but still blazing hot today and tomorrow.
