FORT MYERS, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man had a rough start to his 4th of July weekend after fleeing from state troopers in Fort Myers, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Antonio Burgos, 29, was traveling near U.S. Highway 41 and Colonial Boulevard just before 11 p.m. on July 3 when a trooper attempted to stop him for speeding.

Driving a Kia, Burgos fled the stop, damaging three other vehicles and a street sign on his way, FHP said.

Eventually, he was stopped with a PIT maneuver, but then refused to exit the vehicle.

The highway patrol said Burgos was tased to ensure his compliance and later booked into the Lee County Jail.

The 29-year-old now faces a long list of charges:

Aggravated fleeing to elude

Habitual traffic offender

Refusal to submit to DUI testing

4 counts of DUI property damage

4 counts of reckless driving with property damage

Jail records indicate Burgos has been arrested in Lee County numerous times over the last ten years, including multiple arrests on suspicion of DUI.

FHP said, in addition to Burgos, troopers issued 69 citations and 37 warnings during their Red, White and Blue Lights operation, which will continue until Sunday, July 5.
