ORLANDO, Fla. — Across the country, fireworks lit up the sky to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. In Orlando, thousands of people gathered at Lake Eola for the 49th annual Fireworks at the Fountain.
Despite a rainy afternoon, the skies cleared and families spent the holiday together, as others showed off their patriotism. Attendees enjoyed a family-friendly zone, local food vendors, and live entertainment.
“It’s a very exciting anniversary and adds an extra sparkle to the holiday,” Winter Park resident Anastasia McTague said.
The Orlando Concert Band produced a custom musical score synchronized to the fireworks display.
“You don’t get 250 years of independence every day, so it’s a special time,” Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said. “It’s exciting to have our annual show during an important year.”
It was Zambelli Fireworks’ 20th year designing the Lake Eola show.
“Not only is it an adrenaline rush setting it off, cause I’m out on the barge setting it off, but just to know that so many people get excited for the firework show and I’m the one that gets to make it happen, it’s cool,” Zambelli Fireworks subcontractor Ben Dehart said.
Dehart says his crew lit over 3,000 fireworks this year with a special design for the 250th anniversary.
