Fort Lauderdale police have detained and are questioning a man who surrendered voluntarily after a fatal shooting at the government center parking garage early Sunday, said department spokesman Sgt. Patrick O’Brian.

The shooting took place about 4:30 a.m. Sunday near Southwest Second Street and First Avenue.

The victim, identified as James Cosey, 43, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center near downtown Fort Lauderdale and pronounced dead, said O’Brian.

O’Brian said the shooter reported himself to police on his own and surrendered his weapon. The man was still being questioned Sunday afternoon and had not yet been charged.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to call 954-828-5700.
