ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WLFA) — The sky over St. Pete was lit up with fireworks Saturday night to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

Before the dazzling display kicked off, tons of people packed the edges of the North Yacht Basin, including Marsha Anderson.

“Our friends had come here to the historic museum function and scoped this out, and we talked and came here,” she said.

Some people took setting up camp even more seriously, as Jenny Beck’s family set up shop around the crack of dawn.

“Since like 6:30. We want to make sure we get a good spot, it’s very important,” she said.

Anderson said she takes planning for the day seriously because St. Pete takes celebrating America seriously.

“Down here, they go all out. And look at the area, look at the people, it’s pretty exciting,” she said.

8 On Your Side also met Carlos Sanchez, who was all decked out in American attire.

“I knew I wanted to come out, celebrate the Fourth of July, celebrate America’s birthday, and just be around this, with fellow Americans who love our country as much as I do,” he said.
