City of Jacksonville investigates cybersecurity incident after suspicious activity

JACKSONVILLE — Some city systems are down in Jacksonville as the city works with specialists to investigate a cybersecurity incident that occurred Friday.
City Manager James Hubbard said the city on Friday detected suspicious network activity, which was later determined to be a cybersecurity incident. The city quickly took affected systems offline and launched an investigation.
Part of the city’s response included disabling certain systems out of an abundance of caution. As of Monday afternoon, Hubbard said some city services are still unavailable as the team works to bring systems fully back online. The city is implementing workarounds where possible.
“To proactively protect our systems, we have implemented additional security measures and enhanced monitoring across our network,” Hubbard said. “Our investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing. We are working closely with third-party cybersecurity specialists to address the situation and to bring our network back online as quickly and safely as possible.”
The city will provide updates as needed.
“Our priority is safeguarding the city’s systems, maintaining public safety, and ensuring continuity of services for our residents,” Hubbard said. “We appreciate the community’s patience as we work to respond to this incident.”
