Send your name to space on the Nancy Grace Roman telescope

NATIONWIDE —As NASA is preparing to launch the Nancy Grace Roman telescope into a far orbit, your name can go into space too.

NASA, with the help of SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket, plans to launch the telescope from the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026.

The Nancy Grace Roman telescope will have a new home at the Sun-Earth Lagrange point (L2), just a mere 1 million miles (1.5 million kilometers) from good, old Earth.

“Explore the universe with us! The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is NASA’s next space observatory, launching to a point in space ONE MILLION MILES away,” the U.S. space agency stated.

People have to go to this NASA website and submit their name and email. The submitted names are placed on an SD card attached to the telescope.

This was done during the Artemis II moon mission.

The Nancy Grace Roman space telescope’s job is to focus on dark energy and dark matter and search for exoplanets, or planets outside of our solar system.
